March 6, 2025Gallagher Township Sets Dates for 175th Festival, Fire Company Presented with Donation
From the Record NewspaperBy: Christopher MillerWritten: March 6, 2025
GALLAGHER TOWNSHIP – Gallagher Township Supervisors met Wednesday evening for their monthly public meeting.
Per the road master report, a road tour is planned for March 28 at 9 AM to review the status of the roads after this past winter dumped a mess of snow and ice around the region.
Loretta Coltrane, representing the School House Committee, spoke next. A logo for the 175th anniversary of the founding of the township was presented to the committee for review. A spring clean-up of the school house and grounds is being planned for the coming weeks.
Township supervisors also mentioned bringing a builder in to provide a quote on repairing the floor in the schoolhouse to make it safe to walk on. Further renovations to the building may be in the works including updated electrical and the installation of HVAC. The current structure dates back to the late 19th century and has only ever had a coal/wood stove for heat.
A brief discussion on the restoration of interior elements was also brought up, including photographing and preserving a large portion of the original black board which contains original writing dating back to around the year 1900.
Supervisors also heard an update from the 175 Anniversary Committee.
The committee has two events currently planned, the first of which will be on Sunday, May 18 from 11 AM to 5 PM, the second planned for Sunday, October 5, also from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Township supervisors are also considering a reflective signage requirement for the addressing of properties in the township, including adding numbers in front of homes and at the main road intersection of some rural roads, telling emergency personnel and visitors what address numbers are down which roads. Supervisors opted to each out to the county regarding this matter.
Supervisors also presented Haneyville Fire Company with a donation check for $10,000. Fire Chief and Fire Company President John Barrett was present to accept the donation.
A brief presentation was made before the board for a new website to include live weather data, event information, township news and updates, and the possibility of a future live-feed webcam. Supervisors voted unanimously on this project.
Township supervisors also voted on the purchase of a 2024 Ford F-250 for the amount of $67,400. The old Ford Expedition was recently donated to Haneyville Fire Company.
A four minute executive session for a legal matter was held prior to the start of the meeting. [...]
